NEW YORK — Multiple people were shot in a subway station in Brooklyn Tuesday morning and “undetonated devices” were found in the area.
Police responded to reports of a shooting at 8:27 a.m. in the vicinity of 36th Street and 4th Avenue in Brooklyn's Sunset Park neighborhood, a spokesperson for the NYPD told POLITICO. Multiple people were shot and undetonated devices were found at the station, said a Fire Department spokesperson. The investigation is ongoing.
Photos of injured commuters have been posted on social media. The NYPD is looking for person wearing an orange construction vest and gas mask, according to The New York Times. The paper also reported that 13 people were injured.
A City Hall spokesperson said Mayor Eric Adams is monitoring the situation.
"While we gather more information, we ask New Yorkers to stay away from this area for their safety and so that first responders can help those in need and investigate," Adams' press secretary Fabien Levy tweeted.
Adams has banked his mayoralty on public safety, but shootings are up 14 percent this year.
