California Gov. Gavin Newsom has tested positive for Covid, his office announced on Saturday.

Newsom's diagnosis comes a day after he met with New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern in San Francisco to sign a pledge to help fight climate change. Ardern tested positive for Covid in May.

Newsom said in a tweet that he is “exhibiting mild symptoms” and is isolating at least through Thursday and until he tests negative.

Newsom, 54, is vaccinated and has received two booster shots, the most recent on May 18, according to a statement.

"The governor has also received a prescription for Paxlovid, the antiviral that has been proven effective against COVID-19, and will begin his 5-day regimen immediately," his office said.

"Grateful to be vaccinated and for treatments like Paxlovid," Newsom said in a tweet.
