Donald Trump appeared to end a fiery one-on-one with Piers Morgan after being pressed on his false claims about winning the 2020 election in a new interview set to air next week.
Trump was Morgan’s first guest on his new show, “Piers Morgan Uncensored.” In preview footage that was tweeted out Wednesday, the English broadcaster told the former president that he lost in 2020, and that it was a “free and fair election.”
“Only a fool would think that,” Trump fired back.
“You think I’m a fool?” Morgan responded.
“I do now, yeah,” Trump said, telling Morgan he was much more honest than him. Trump then said he’d like to finish up the interview and asked for the camera to be turned off.
The contentious exchange, which is scheduled to air in full on April 25 on Fox Nation, is one more sign that Trump continues to cling to his baseless claims of voter fraud in 2020. And the former president has maintained his stronghold on the GOP as he dangles the possibility of another run for the White House in 2024.
Morgan, who’s making his return to television after a controversial exit from "Good Morning Britain" last year, will unveil more details about his interview with Trump in a column for the New York Post on Thursday. Morgan said the former president called him a fool six more times during their conversation. He also attacked former Vice President Mike Pence as “foolish and weak” and called Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell “stupid.”
While the end of Wednesday’s clip shows Trump telling Morgan he was done, the interview wasn’t really over. Trump stuck around to talk about a recent hole-in-one in golf.
